A Message from Dr. David Jacobson, CEO
When President George H.W. Bush signed the proclamation declaring March 30th National Doctors Day in 1991, it was years into the fight against another terrible virus, HIV/AIDS, which had devastated communities around our city and our country. Today, the COVID-19 pandemic we face is as dangerous as anything we have dealt with before, and once again doctors and healthcare workers are on the front lines. Just by going to work and treating others, you put yourselves at risk. Yet, all of you - our doctors, nurses and the entire healthcare team continue to work tirelessly, displaying professionalism and courage.
Meanwhile, our patients—the members we serve, who depend on our health centers, have been shocked by both the medical and economic impacts of this virus. They remain resilient and strong in the face of this struggle, and we need to continue to be strong for them. Now, more than ever, our members are in need of the services we provide. Your dedication and determination, your concern and care, your strength and service gives them hope.
One doctor in the middle of both crises, who grew up in Brooklyn, is Dr. Anthony Fauci. I recently read his personal motto: “Always strive for excellence.”
When I think about all of you and the work we do together including the everyday achievements you provide, excellence is exactly what I see.
Every year, we celebrate healthcare providers knowing that when terrifying moments like this come, in our own lives, and in the life of our country—you will be there to serve and comfort and heal. I speak for everyone when I say thank you.
In short, you, the Employee Benefits Fund providers—are all heroes.
Thank you for everything you are doing now, and will do in the weeks to come, to help our community heal.
As a nation, as a city and as a team, we will get through this, together.
Dr. David Jacobson
